Diabete: curarlo senza iniezione
Il diabete è una malattia metabolica cronica caratterizzata da iperglicemia ovvero aumento del livello di glucosio (zucchero)
nel sangue a causa di un deficit di insulina, l’ormone prodotto dalle cellule beta del pancreas che agisce regolando i livelli di glucosio nel sangue. Inoltre, la facilità di impiego di questi nuovi strumenti consente di gestire la cura in famiglia, senza bisogno di ricorrere continuamente ai consigli e all’intervento del medico.
IL MICROINFUSORE
Il microinfusore è uno strumento composto da una centralina computerizzata, dalle dimensioni di un telefonino, cui sono collegati due tubicini. Il primo, applicato sotto la pelle, serve per controllare le variazioni del livello degli zuccheri nel corpo. Dopo la rilevazione, la centralina computerizzata calcola quanta insulina serve al paziente e provvede a somministrarla attraverso il secondo tubicino, anch’esso applicato sotto la pelle, assicurando così una terapia continua e regolare per il controllo della malattia.
VANTAGGI
I vantaggi rispetto alla terapia tradizionale sono due:
- il primo vantaggio è che grazie al microinfusore si può controllare costantemente il livello di zuccheri senza pungere continuamente il dito del paziente per ottenere la goccia di sangue necessaria per effettuare la verifica strumentale.
- Il secondo vantaggio consiste nel fatto che, grazie a questo strumento, le iniezioni di insulina diventano inutili. Infatti, molto spesso, i pazienti diabetici sono costretti a praticare 6 o anche più iniezione al giorno. Offre anche altri vantaggi. Un controllo migliore della somministrazione di insulina, infatti, i nuovi microinfusori segnalano con un allarme acustico se la sua erogazione è eccessiva per le esigenze del paziente o se, viceversa, è insufficiente, grazie a un semplice sistema di controllo esterno, che ha dimensioni e forma simile a quelli di un telefonino, il paziente può variare la somministrazione di insulina secondo le necessità.
COME VIENE APPLICATO
Il microinfusore è esterno al corpo del paziente, che può comodamente tenere nella tasca dei pantaloni, in un portacellulare, sotto i vestiti con speciali fasce elastiche. Molte donne, addirittura, lo agganciano al reggiseno. I due tubicini sono collegati al microinfusore, sono posizionati direttamente sotto la pelle, creando un varco con un normale ago da iniezione e questa è l’unica procedura invasiva richiesta che permette poi di evitare tutte le altre iniezioni quotidiane. I pazienti che hanno ricevuto il microinfusore non si accorgono neppure della presenza di questi tubicini. Infatti sono molto sottili e estremamente flessibili, e sono ancorati al corpo con uno speciale scotch che assicura una perfetta tenuta e una totale indipendenza di movimento. Il microinfusore è uno strumento semplice da portare e, anche per questo motivo è usato con ottimo successo anche dai bambini.
E’ TOLLERATO DAI BAMBINI
Il microinfusore è resistente e così facile da usare che proprio i bambini ne traggono il maggiore beneficio. I bambini odiano le iniezioni e questo sistema permette di evitarle. La qualità di vita dei piccoli migliora anche perché, grazie ai sensori posti nel microinfusore, non serve più vegliarsi la notte per controllare il loro livello di glicemia poiché il sistema lavora anche nelle ore notturne adeguandosi ai bisogni del paziente. Inoltre il microinfusore è diventato uno strumento fondamentale per il controllo di uno dei maggiori pericoli per i pazienti diabetici.
PREVIENE L’IPOGLICEMIA
L’ipoglicemia è un termine medico che indica uno stato patologico causato da un basso livello di zuccheri nel sangue. L’ipoglicemia è una delle più frequenti complicanze del trattamento farmacologico del diabete. Consiste in un rapido abbassamento dei livelli di glucosio nel sangue al di sotto della soglia di normalità e si manifesta con una serie di sintomi che vanno da:
- palpitazioni
- tremore
- ansia
- giramenti di testa
- confusione
- perdita di conoscenza
Una eccessiva somministrazione di insulina o una insufficiente alimentazione può rendere troppo scarsa la quantità di zuccheri (glucosio) nel sangue e creare problemi. Gli adulti sono più capaci dei bambini di riconoscere i primi sintomi provocati da questa situazione. I genitori di un bambino diabetico, invece, è possibile che debbano alzarsi fino a 3 volte ogni notte per controllare il livello degli zuccheri nel sangue del proprio figlio per evitare che la crisi di ipoglicemia avvenga nel sonno. I microinfusori prevengono questo problema perché sono dotati di sistemi di sicurezza che sospendono la somministrazione di insulina appena il livello degli zuccheri raggiunge valori minimi e riprendono il lavoro quando si innalzano. Questo è un vantaggio anche nel lungo periodo. La salute del paziente diabetico dipende da un controllo adeguato del problema; questi sistemi permettono di tenere sempre sotto controllo la situazione e quindi di ridurre al minimo il rischio di trascurare la malattia, e ridurre tutti gli effetti negativi a livello cardiocircolatorio a cui potrebbero andare incontro.
