Che cos’è il lemongrass?
Il lemongrass viene impiegato esternamente per il trattamento di dolori reumatici, lombalgie, dolori nevralgici e distorsioni. I soldati di Alessandro Magno a diffondere in Occidente il lemon grass o erba limone, dopo averlo conosciuto nelle campagne militari dell’India.  in questi luoghi quest’ erba, che quando viene spezzata emana un forte odore di limone, veniva chiamata “della febbre” perché era utilizzata principalmente per combatterla.Â
Al tempo degli antichi romani l’olio essenziale veniva preparato ad Alessandria, in seguito fu Palmira, la prima importante città carovaniera per i profumi, il centro di produzione di questa essenza. Tuttavia il lemon grass conosce la sua massima diffusione in Oriente dove, tra l’altro, è usato anche in cucina.Â
In particolare sono i piatti thailandesi ad essere aromatizzati da quest’erba, che conferisce ai cibi un gusto quasi balsamico.Â
Oggi non è impossibile trovare il lemon grass nei negozi di alimentari di alimenti orientali. Chi volesse cimentarsi in qualche piatto esotico può provare ad aggiungere qualche profumato stelo, solo la parte bianca, di lemon grass.Â
Dall’Oriente ai Caraibi. In Oriente gli usi antichi e moderni del lemon grass  si confondono. Lo si impiega ancora per curare le mestruazioni irregolari, il mal di stomaco e di testa, la diarrea.Â
In Cina vi si ricorre anche per il raffreddore e dolori reumatici. Â
In India viene mescolato al latticello (lo scarto della lavorazione del burro, come suggerisce il nome è una sorta di latte acquoso lievemente acidulo) per preparare un impasto efficace controÂ
dei funghi che si insediano nei capelli. Oppure si aggiunge il lemon grass all’olio di cocco e lo si usa per massaggi destinati ad alleviare lombaggini e reumatismi.Â
Anche nei Caraibi viene usato quest’erba in modo abbastanza simile. Per esempio contro i dolori articolari si fanno dei bagni.Â
I problemi di origine nervosa, soprattutto se digestivi, vengono alleviati con il lemon grass, che a Cuba è anche ritenuto in gradoÂ
di abbassare la pressione. Sia in Oriente sia nei Caraibi, inoltre, grazie al forte odore che sprigiona viene utilizzato efficacemente per respingere mosche, moscerini e zanzare.Â
Olio essenziale
L’olio essenziale si presta bene a prevenire la traspirazione eccessiva e come deodorante. Un pediluvio, a cui sono stateÂ
aggiunte poche gocce, sarà di sollievo per i piedi sudati.Â
Qualche goccia di olio nelle scarpe soprattutto quelle sportive, serve efficacemente a deodorarle. Spargere un pò  di olio vicino alle finestre servirà a evitare che entrano insetti in casa.Â
Per combattere i parassiti dei cani si può frizionare il pelo con poche gocce di olio di lemon grass ben diluito in un olio veicolo.Â
In questo modo le nostre notti estive non saranno più infestate dalle zanzare, il nostro amico poi non passerà le giornate a grattarsi, e la nostra casa sarà gradevolmente profumata.
