L’ 80% delle persone che trascorre molte ore davanti ad uno schermo avverte bruciore e prurito agli occhi, visione annebbiata e sdoppiata e fotofobia, cioè fastidio alla luce. Questi sono i sintomi dell’ affaticamento visivo provocato dall’uso eccessivo degli smartphone, dei tablet e dei Pc. Lo sforzo continuo per cercare di mettere a fuoco ciò che si legge, lo sguardo fisso per un lungo periodo sullo smartphone, sul tablet e su PC, le condizioni poco favorevoli (a volte poca luce) provocano un ulteriore affaticamento della vista. Questi fastidi non portano disturbi a lungo termine risolvendosi poi con qualche ora di riposo. Tuttavia si possono trovare degli accorgimenti.
Visita oculistica
Sottoporsi alla visita oculistica ogni 1-2 anni da un medico specialista. Un problema iniziale di miopia o astigmatismo può essere corretto con le apposite lenti per evitare il peggioramento dei sintomi.
Quali accorgimenti usare per salvaguardare la vista
- Tenere il monitor del PC ad almeno mezzo metro di distanza dagli occhi e ad una decina di cm più in basso rispetto al piano visivo. Lo smartphone ad una distanza di almeno 40 cm di distanza e non troppo vicino agli occhi, la visione ravvicinata non è congeniale all’occhio dell’uomo. Utilizzare il più possibile sul PC lo sfondo bianco con i caratteri neri e con una luminosità media per migliorare la risoluzione e il contrasto e leggere senza fatica.
- Utilizzare le lacrime artificiali per idratare l’occhio, che tende a seccarsi a causa della scarsa frequenza con cui si chiudono le palpebre e soprattutto se portatori le lenti a contatto.
- Fare una pausa di 20 secondi ogni 20 minuti e guardare un punto più lontano per rilassare la micro-muscolatura oculare.
- I miopi possono utilizzare lenti con correzione leggermente più bassa nella parte inferiore. Questo aiuta la messa a fuoco quando lo sguardo passa dallo schermo a qualcosa di più distante.
- I presbiti, invece, dovrebbero preferire l’utilizzo delle lenti da vicino tarate sulla distanza dello schermo, oppure lenti progressive.
Precauzioni per i bambini
Recenti studi segnalano come l’affaticamento visivo legato all’uso prolungato dei dispositivi tecnologici possa favorire la miopia tra i più giovani. Per prevenire il rischio, bisogna abituare i bambini ad utilizzare l’intero campo visivo, cosa che non avviene, quando focalizzati sullo smartphone, sul tablet e sul PC costringono gli occhi ad una accomodazione che non è fisiologica. I bambini devono correre e giocare all’aria aperta come minimo un’ora al giorno. In questo modo la loro vista trae grande vantaggio anche dalla luce solare, che attraverso una complessa relazione neurochimica contrasta l’eccessivo allungamento del bulbo oculare che è responsabile della miopia.
